Why oven-bake?  We've been selling oven-baked pet food for almost 20 years—the feedback from our customers, veterinarians, and the health and vitality of our own pets speaks for itself. Our customers continually report fewer health issues, reduced vet bills, alleviation of allergy symptoms, and increased vitality and well-being when they switch their dogs' diet to our oven-baked foods. Most dry and semi-moist pet foods are manufactured by an extrusion process—a method of cooking with high temperatures over a short time, forcing ingredients through a die to create the desired shape. Extrusion is cheaper and faster than old-fashioned baking; however, it affects starches, nutrients, proteins, and vitamins in ways that baking doesn't, making the food more difficult to digest, and even changing the structure of proteins which may trigger allergic symptoms.
Slow baking maintains the integrity of the ingredients, while enhancing the aroma and taste. All of our Pinto Canyon recipes are slowly oven-baked at lower temperatures in small batches, just like you'd bake at home. Ask your dog!
Clean water bowls daily. Have clean bowls of cool, fresh water available at all times.
Store your food in a cool and dry location.

Feeding Notes
Feed less! Baked food is denser than other pet foods; you'll typically feed 25% less. If your dog has loose stool, you may be overfeeding. Please refer to the feeding guidelines, and try feeding slightly less.
The Feeding Guideline above is a starting point. Please adjust the feeding amount as necessary to maintain the optimum body weight for your dog. We recommend that you weigh your dog weekly.
New to this food? Please transition your pet. Some dogs may do better by making a gradual transition over 7 to 10 days. Start with 25% of the new food mixed with 75% of the previous diet, and gradually increase the new while decreasing the previous until the transition is complete. Sudden diet change may cause loose stool or stomach discomfort. Typically, a gradual transition is not necessary when changing to another Pinto Canyon food because all of our foods are similar in quality and the cooking process.
Pinto Canyon Oven-Baked Chicken & Brown Rice Recipe is formulated to meet the nutritional levels established by the AAFCO Dog Food Nutrient Profiles for maintenance.
