Kate and Midnight Napping with Mom

Midnight
Breed: Domestic Shorthair CatWeight: 8 pounds
Gender: Male
Favorite Food: He loves his Flint River Ranch! When the Flint River Ranch food arrived we planned to introduce it gradually to the animals, as is recommended for switching food. The first feeding, Midnight got about half and half. After he'd finished eating there was food scattered on the floor; that was not new with my picky cat, I swept it up and didn't think twice. The next feeding, I mixed the food again. After eating, the floor was littered with food; BUT I noticed something strange: it was only the old food that was scattered! He had taken out the bits of old food and eaten the Flint River Ranch cat food! So, we gave up trying to switch the new food slowly; with just two meals he made his preference VERY clear! That was a year and a half ago; he's been a happy cat since then.
Favorite Activities: He loves leeping in cardboard boxes or on Mom.

Baby Girl
Breed: Chow Chow/German Shepherd Dog MixWeight: 60 pounds
Gender: Female
Favorite Food: She likes Flint River Ranch, of course - as much as she can get.
Favorite Activities: She likes 'finding' Midnight, play-fighting with 'sister' Kate, warning visitors that they're in HER yard, riding in the back of the truck with her Doggles on, and napping in front of the bathroom vent.
Favorite Place to Sleep: She loves to sleep nearby, but not so close that she'd get kicked. She would sleep on the bed if we'd let her, and sometimes when we are gone I know she does.
Special Skills or Responsibilities: She knows Sit, Stay, Down, Sit Up, High Five, and Hugs and Kisses. The first five are done for treats if she feels like it; Hugs and Kisses, she loves to do for "Daddy" who brought her home to our family. I'd have to say she's Daddy's Girl.
Story: We found her hanging out alone at the trash dump site on Mother's Day 2005.

Kate
Weight: 37 poundsGender: Female
Favorite Food: She loves her Flint River Ranch.
Favorite Activities: She likes mothering on Midnight, fighting with her Sis, lying on the couch (or as close as she can get) with Mom, taking her toys outside one by one (we have had as many as 15 toys scattered in the yard in one day), running wildly around the yard and jumping to snatch toys from my outstretched hands. I hold my arms straight out (sometimes higher) and she jumps and keeps running with the toy. Like her big sister, Kate also loves to warn visitors when they come near her yard. Both dogs quiet down when I tell them that the big brown truck is bringing their food.
Story: We stole her; that's the short story. Of course, that has to be explained with the longer version! 2005/2006 was a bad winter for us. We got evicted because we wouldn't get rid of Baby Girl and then lived in a really trashy trailer park for about nine months. That's where Baby Girl and I met Kate. We would walk to the mailboxes two streets over and pass by a puppy chained to the front of a trailer on a 6-foot chain, often with no water, even in the heat. Sometimes she would get loose and play with Baby Girl and follow us home. I didn't encourage that because I didn't want her to get in trouble, but I thought she was a sweet puppy and didn't like the way they treated her. In August 2006, we were moving and I noticed that she was loose and eating from a trash can. I called her over and gave her some food, then went to check out her 'home.' As I expected, it was empty. Her people had moved on and left her to fend for herself. She hung out with us as I was loading the car and the last thing I loaded was that sweet little abandoned dog. She tried to ride in my lap and lick my face the entire two-hour trip. That was nearly two years ago and with training and Pet-Safe Wireless Containment System she has become a model dog.
